A Part of Me

For Justine: When you were born, They held you in the air. I asked, "Is she ok?" They said, "Look at all that hair!" The doctor said, "She's perfect." "Do you want to see?" They lay you in my arms, and you gazed up at me. I stared at you in awe, For you took my breath away. I held you to my chest, and wished that you could stay. I touched your face so soft, counted every finger and toe. Cried quietly to myself, Oh, how I longed to watch you grow. I prayed then, that you won't hate me. For the only gift I had to give, The life I'd chosen for you, Was one where you could live, In a home I did not have- with ones who could provide, everything, except my love. And so with tears I had to hide, I gave to them a blessing, My child. So please see... All that gets me through the day, Is knowing you're a part of me.
